The Fraternal Order of Police is the worlds largest organization of sworn officers, with membership totals over 325,000.

In Minnesota, we have members that are part of the rank and file from almost every police organization within the state. Being a member of the MN FOP, not only allows you an opportunity to get to know the other officers in your surrounding area, but also around the state. By being an active member, you get to be a part of the network of brothers and sisters that do that same job as you. We are all aware of the benefits of networking and having a contact to call when you need a hand. Being able to make that call to someone you know can be crucial in your personal or professional time of need.  

The MN FOP has numerous local lodge events that are held all around the state. Many of them are fundraisers, but all of them are a good time and filled with many laughs. Fishing derby's, Pheasant Hunts, Poker Tournaments, and Hypnatist stage shows are just some of the events held yearly.

The above fundraisers, and the MN FOP phone call soliciations, are all part of the way that we help our mission succeed. Our goal is to encourage fraternal, educational, charitable, and social activities among law enforcement officers, and the communities that they serve. The money raised by our local lodge is used and adminsitered soley by the local lodge and it's membership. The funds are used for several annual charity donations, to pay for the national FOP membership dues, to fund purchases for members sick or in distress, and to fund and attend regularly scheduled local lodge meetings, state meetings, and bi-annual national meetings. Other expenditures from the local lodge's funds are voted on by either the Lodge Executive Board, or the membership in attendance of a regular meeting. Some of the expenditures that have been voted on and passed recently were:

• Cash donation to a Lodge 6 member diagnosed with cancer
• Cash donation to MN FOP member diagnosed with cancer
• Cash donation to the local Law Enforcement Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics
• Sponsorship of Lodge 6 Brother riding in the LE United ride for Police Week  
• Sponsorship of 2 teams for the Minnetonka Girls Softball Association     

Being a member also gains you access to the MN FOP Legal Defense Plan. This is a legal plan offered exclusively to MN FOP members by Fowler Law Firm. The cost is $150.00 annually, and offers you legal council for many on and off-duty related matters. Please see the "Legal Defense Plan" tab for more information.

MN FOP members are also granted insurance benefits just by being a member. These benefits include a $5,000.00 Accidental Death, $5,000.00 In the Line-of-Duty, and a $5,000.00 Felonious Assault death benefit. There are many other benefits covered under this plan, and you can see them all by contacting your local Lodge President.
